07.22.2008 — Definitive Technology announced a new line of flush mount in-ceiling/in-wall loudspeakers called "Disappearing In-Wall."

The Disappearing In-Wall Series includes five round two-way models: 3.5-, 4.5-, 5.25-, 6.5- and 8-inch; one round 6.5-inch single-speaker stereo model; two square two-way models: 5.25- and 6.5-inch, and one rectangular bipolar model for surround channel applications.

All feature near-invisibility thanks to their small diameters, hidden flange design, and low-profile micro-perf grilles.

The new models are as easy to install as traditional flanged flush mount speakers and do not require custom sheetrock/spackle skills to install.

The Disappearing In-Wall models feature Definitive's advanced technologies such as BDSS drivers and Pure Aluminum dome tweeters.

The Balanced Dual Surround System (BDSS) permits these new flush mounts to deliver more bass output and dynamic range than larger drivers.

For example the 4.5-inch driver based model has the bass and dynamics of a 5.25-inch traditional speaker, while the 5.25-inch performs like a traditional 6.5-inch, and so on.

The units have a pivoting 1-inch Pure Aluminum dome tweeter featuring a specially shaped housing that avoids the diffraction distortions of traditional post mounted tweeters, and an adjustable crossover network.

Fire-rated pre-construction enclosures will be available as options, allowing integrators, architects and designers to specify Disappearing In-Wall Speakers in multi-family and commercial applications.

Definitive Technology will be showcasing the speakers at CEDIA Expo 2008 in Sound Room 3.

MSRP for the speakers ranges from $179 to $379 each. The speakers will ship in the first quarter of 2009.
