Clare Adds Network Security to Cloud-Enabled Home Automation

Responding to concerns about hacker bots and other threats to home networks, Clare adds cloud-based security services to ClareHome automation system.

ClareHome 2.2 now has cloud-based network security

Clare Controls launched its cloud-enabled home automation system, ClareHome, in 2011. Now the company is releasing v2.2, which includes security measures to protect the home network.

We continue to report about the latest threats to network security, most notably bots like Shodan that scan for open ports through which they can access any IP device on the network. A hacked home automation system, for example, could compromise an Internet-connected security system, cable DVR, camera, medical device or anything else with an IP address.

Responding to these threats, Clare has added cloud-based security to its system in ClareHome 2.2.

The company reports in a press release:

ClareHome 2.2 leverages cloud-based protocols to provide secure remote communications with in-home ClareOS controllers, without compromising network firewalls. FusionLink will allow Clare dealers to connect to users’ servers for project management/maintenance. ClareAnywhere lets ClareHome users safely control home systems in multiple locations from wherever they happen to be.  In contrast to many other systems, Clare is providing communication from the cloud to the home and from users’ mobile devices to their homes without risky open ports or VPN links.

The new software version also includes update to Clare’s app-driven user interface, cloud-based Fusion Configuration Tool and the ClareOS operating system.

ClareHome 2.2 is available now.
