Canton Adds 6 Speakers to Redesigned GLE Series

Canton has introduced six redesigned models of GLE loudspeakers, consisting of two floorstanding speakers, two compact speakers, a horizontal center-channel and an on-wall speaker.

The company says the biggest change was made to the line's soft dome tweeter, which now uses a finer silk fabric that's "more resistant to partial oscillations and allows an extended bandwidth at the high end."

Canton also employed a curved front baffle that it says improves:

• Frequency response linearity
• Increased bandwidth
• A 3dB increase in driver efficiency

All GLE models come in the following bicolor finishes:

• Beech cabinet with a silver lacquer front baffle
• Cherry cabinet with a titanium front panel
• Walnut cabinet with silver front baffle
• Mocha cabinet with a gloss white lacquer baffle

Each speaker is also available in single-color black ash or silver finishes.

GLE 490 Floorstanding Speaker

This is the largest model in the series, featuring a three-way bass reflex design, a pair of 8-inch woofers, a single 7-inch midrange, and a 1-inch silk dome tweeter.

It has a sensitivity of 90.5 dB, impedance of 4 – 8 Ohms and a frequency response of 54Hz - 24.1kHz (±3dB).

GLE 470 Floorstander

The GLE 470 floorstander employs a sophisticated 2-1/2 way design that uses a pair of 7-inch cones for bass reproduction.

Canton says it improved off-axis dispersion by sending midrange frequencies only to the top cone. The 470 has a SPL of 89.5 dB, impedance of 4-8 Ohms and a frequency response of 61Hz - 24.1kHz (±3dB)

MSRP: $1,099 per pair.

GLE 455 Center

The magnetically-shielded GLE 455 Center can be used as either a horizontal center channel or for front or rear channels.

It features: two 6-1/4-inch aluminum woofers and a 2-1/2 way crossover similar to the GLE 470.

MSRP: $499 each

Two-way GLE 430

This speaker employs a 7-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter in a front-ported mountable cabinet. The 430 features and SPL of 89, impedance of 4-8 Ohms and a frequency response of 62Hz - 24.1kHz (±3dB).

MSRP: $649 per pair

GLE 420 Compact

The two-way GLE 420 compact speaker features a 6-1/4-inch woofer and rear port and can also be mounted on a shelf or on the LS 600 stand.

MSRP: $549 per pair

GLE 410 Loudspeaker

Features the same driver complement as the GLE 420, but in a sealed box cabinet that is 3.5-inches deep, making it attractive to be wall-mounted.
