Best Buy Marketing Exec Barry Judge Resigns
Best Buy chief marketing officer Barry Judge has resigned, marking the third major executive Best Buy has lost since March.
Best Buy‘s chief marketing officer, Barry Judge, has resigned from the world’s largest big-box electronics retailer. This is the third major executive Best Buy has lost since March 2012.
Best Buy spokesman Greg Hitt says Judge, who was named head of marketing in Feb. 2008, “is leaving the company to explore the next chapter in his career, while Best Buy is taking advantage of the opportunity to leverage the skills and experiences of additional senior leaders.”
Judge guided Best Buy’s $1 billion-a-year advertising and marketing efforts, including its Super Bowl ads.
Best Buy says Judge’s departure is not connected to the resignation of former CEO Brian Dunn, who stepped down shortly after Best Buy announced a $1.7 billion quarterly loss. The board is currently investigating whether Dunn improperly used company resources to carry on an affair with a female staffer.
Robert Stephens, Geek Squad founder and chief technology officer, resigned in March.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Stephen Gillett, who was recently named Best Buy’s digital chief, will take on Judge’s global marketing responsibilities.
Despite the recent financial trouble and personnel changes, Best Buy landed at No. 1 on the CE Pro 100 as its Geek Squad/Magnolia/AudioVisions integration divisions earned an estimated $680 million in integrated systems revenue in 2011.
The search for a new CEO at Best Buy is under way, and most analysts expect the choice to be someone from outside the company.
