Attendance, Optimism Up at CES 2010
Attendance up compared to 2009 after first two days in Vegas.
Attendance was up at CES 2010 after the first two days, says Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) president and CEO Gary Shapiro.
Attendance through Jan. 8, 2010 was 112,515, according to Shapiro. There were only 98,495 attendees after the first two days of CES 2009. Final attendance in 2009 was 113,085, down from 143,695 in 2007.
Prior to the show, the CEA predicted attendance would be 110,000 for the show.
Shapiro, who noted that there is more optimism than in 2009, says the numbers are preliminary and have not been audited.
However, despite there being 330 new exhibitors at CES 2010, the number of total exhibitors fell from 2,700 in 2009 to 2,500.
“With a record number of new exhibitors, scores of new product introductions, several new Spotlights on the show floor and a dynamic lineup of keynotes sessions, the 2010 International CES will be our best show yet,” Shapiro said prior to the show. “More technology deals will be made during the four days of CES than anywhere else.”

Who is Shapiro trying to fool? Anyone that is attending the 2010 CES and have been attending CES for over a decade now, will tell you that attendance is down dramatically from last year, that is plain to see. Come on Gary, don’t take us for fools. Be man enough to admit that CES is on a steady decline and all you can do is to slow down the year on year decline the best you can!
