AMXHome Now Even Simpler to Program
New Web configurator generates code, connections, and product suggestions for quicker installations.
AMX continues to be on a rampage to simplify its systems for custom installers.
At the recent CEDIA Expo 2008, the company demonstrated an overhaul of its AMXHome program, which was launched earlier this year.
AMXHome is a package complete with software, marketing collateral, supporting documentation and training. It's a scaled-down version of AMX’s complete automation offering, and can be installed by a larger population of less-experienced techs.
At CEDIA, AMX announced and even more simplified programming environment for AMXHome.
The new Web configurator tool for AMXHome can take all of the guesswork out of system set-up, with Wizards that take the "programmer" through the entire project.
"Previously, it [generated] just a bunch of NetLinx code," says AMX's Charlie Cash. "Now it does everything for you. It tells you the port connections, the IR connections, which processor you should use. …"
Dealers can adjust the auto-generated configurations, for example, if they want to use a larger processor to plan for expansion.
For additional flexibility, says Cash, "You can put it [programming] into NetLinx Studio."
Otherwise, he says, "You can just push it into the product."

AMX also is expanding its line of EXPerience Kits, which help integrators order all of the components necessary to build an AMX control system.
At CEDIA, the company introduced AMX Communication EXPerience Kits, providing voice and video over IP for internal and entry-point communications.
Specifically, the kits combine intercom, entry access/communication, telephony and control into one package.
They include different variations of AMX products including the new 5-inch Modero wall-mount touchpanel with intercom (NXD-500i), NI-3101 Signature Series NetLinx Integrated Controller (NI-3101-SIG), Matera Entry Communicator (MET-ECOM) and a Poe Injector (PS-POE-AF).
AMX also offers a SIP Communications Gateway 500 (CSG-500) which enables users to make phone calls from any AMX intercom-ready touchpanel.
